Gap Analysis
A Gap (needs) Analysis is a proactive tool utilised to review your current health and safety management systems, policies and procedures to verify compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation.
Health and safety programs are supported by documents that are considered ‘living’ documents that require regular review and ongoing changes and development. A Gap Analysis is a complete review of a company’s health and safety documentation control program and organizational safety policies. Similarto an audit, a trained Heng-On Safety Consultant will review all available documentation, conduct interviews and complete a thorough observation tour. The results of the analysis will identify where your company’s strengths lie and where recommendations for improvement or compliance are needed.
Once the Gap Analysis is completed, the final report, with a “go forward” action plan, will provide you with a complete description of our recommendations so that your corporate policies and procedures meet or exceed the requirements of the 2018 OH&S Act, Regulations and Code.
It does not need to stop there. A Heng-On Safety Consultant work in partnership with your company, tosupport you through a maintenance contract. This is an excellent way to manage and maintain your health and safety system without having to hire a full time safety person.

COR/ SECOR Requirements and Audits
Support you in achieving your Certificate of Recognition (COR or 10 employees or more) and Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR for under 10 employees). Currently, A COR/SECOR offers WCB premium rate discounts to employers who have successfully implemented health, safety and disability management programs and have achieved a COR/SECOR standard set by their certifying partner.
Benefits of COR / SECOR include:
• Creating a proactive workplace health and safety culture;
• Reducing the risks and costs associated with workplace incidents;
• Lowering WCB rates and qualifying a company for WCB PIR refunds; and
• Improving the overall efficiency at your work site.
Currently, a 10% rebate on WCB premiums is paid to first time COR holders, as a minimum return on investment. In addition, employers are also eligible for the other two measurements in PIR – improving your performance and maintaining industry leadership. Achieving these two measurements could push the total premium refund to 20%. In year two of the program the incentive for maintaining a COR reverts to a 5% discount, but participants can still earn up to a maximum rebate of 20% for industry leadership or improved performance.

Joint Health and Safety Committee Development
The 2018 Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Legislation states that businesses which employ over 20 employees are required to have a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) which has certain duties and obligations as part of the OH&S Act.
The JHSC is an advisory body, such as an internal Safety Consultant that helps to stimulate or raise awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace, recognizes and identifies workplace risks and develops recommendations for the employees to address these risks. To achieve its goal, the committee holds regular meetings ( often monthly) and conducts regular workplace inspections focused on risk assessments and makes written recommendations to the employer for the improvement of the health and safety of workers.
A Heng-On Safety Consultant can provide support to the committee, helping them to full fill their tasks and obligations as required. Our consultant can also run the company’s JHSC; which includes being an active advisor in the team, attending monthly meetings, helping out with the agenda, action plans and the committee roles in general.
